Local Reps Information
Sector News.
Since taking over the role of sector secretary, I have been finding out how things work and trying to get the sector more organised. We are trying to listen to all our members' not just frontline. The sector is looking into putting some sector training on for the reps to help them in their roles. We will be trying to get all members more active in Dorset.
Two Reps have stood down. We have two new Reps that finished their course in July. The Rep course starting in September we have one Rep on this and two reps taking the stepping up course. Next year's Reps course we already have one Rep to go on this course. The sector is short of Reps in some areas so over the next three months we are going to have a drive on recruiting Reps in these areas and look for replacements for Reps who will be retiring in the next year.
In November of this year, the sector is going to have a Health and Safety rep meeting. The sector will be holding these meetings every 6 months. In our sector, we do have Health and safety reps in each area but will be looking into recruiting more Health and Safety reps.
The sector carried out Health and Safety inspections. Two Health and Safety reps and I went round the 23 work places in Dorset over four days and then sent reports to the O.L.M.'S and the O.M. of Dorset. We are pleased to report the Managers have thanked us for our reports and they are working through the report and putting our recermdations in place.

CREW ALERT
Staffside have asked if the crew alert mode can be modified and working practices improved. We need togather any details on incidents. The issue with the crew alert is a national problem and a risk assessment has to be agreed. If you have any incidents can you email them to Gary Hatton please. We need the information to move this forward.

Relief Staff in Dorset
The Trust have been working towards harmonising relief unsocial hours payments across the two former areas.
Dorset System - 25% unsocial hours regardless of what working patterns you are on.
Westcountry System - % worked out to station rota and then paid in lieu up to a maximum of 25%, if worked.
During this process we have been arguing for the former Westcountry system to be replaced with the Dorset system as harmonisation should always be seeking the best possible T&C's. This was rejected by the Trust as it presented a cost pressure and would allow unsocial hours payments to staff who weren't working them. In the current financial climate this was not possible and considered to be unfair.
As a branch we agreed that harmonisation needed to happen, to ensure our members got the same treatment, but we could not agree to the changes. This has led the Trust to write to all Dorset relief and enforce the changes unilaterally.
We must point out that Dorset relief who work unsocial hours WILL receive the payment for these hours. It will involve a one month period of change where they will switch to lieu payments.
We are still concerned as a branch that the time sheet is not recording the unsocial hours and we've asked the Trust for an urgent review to make sure there are no errors in payments. We are also looking at the A4C agreement to check it is being applied fairly.
Members are asked to check their pay and time sheets and report and problems to their local steward or sector secretary.
