On the 22nd October 2010, the Government finally announced the terms of reference, for the long awaited review of the Vetting and Barring Scheme in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.  This was originally announced on the 15 June 2010.   This is an internal government review; it is not subject to full public consultation, although UNISON will be participating as a key stakeholder along with a joint TUC coalition.

Until this review has been completed the Vetting & Barring register managed by the Independent Safeguarding Authority will remain suspended.  However it's important for branches to remember that individuals can still be referred to the Independent Safeguarding Authority for investigation and barred from working with vulnerable adults and children.  Information about this process is on UNISON Professional Registration Representation unit web site http://www.unison.org.uk/prru/vetting.asp"
