Open Letter to Ken Wenman change to protect consultation
Ambulance staff consultation
South Western Ambulance Service management have tabled 2 consultations which we are seeking urgent members' views on.
Protection Arrangements
The first is a proposal to change our current protection arrangements from 2 years full and 3 years marked time (meaning attracting no inflationary rises). The current levels of protection are not considered to be in line with equality legislation and the Trust wish to change it to allow a more flexible workforce and enable more rapid change. They believe this will offer better protection to other staff who may benefit from change in other departments which may free up finances to create posts. Most other NHS bodies have protection ranging from 6 months to 5 years. As pay protection is not in Agenda for Change this has always been a local collective agreement.
Below you can find links to the correspondance between the branch and the Trust. We recently held a branch executive meeting and plan to respond to the Trust. We are seeking members' views so please email branch@swamb.com with your views.

Incremental progression
The other conslutation that the Trust wishes to hold with us is about linking performance with incremental progression. They are seeking to do this by defering pay progression to anyone who is under a formal sickness warning, a formal disciplinary warning or a formal capability warning.
Information about how this would work is detailed below in the correspondance between us and the Trust. We are URGENTLY SEEKING YOUR VIEWS ON THIS PROPOSAL. The Trust have indicated that they are going to implement this scheme on 1st October 2011. We recently held a branch executive meeting and plan to respond to the Trust.
