JOINING UNISON

Page last updated: 30 April 2008

Why join UNISON?

Most people join a union because they want peace of mind in case they have problems at work.

Unison is the only recognised union within the South Western Ambulance Service. By joining us, you get local representation right here within our workplace, along with the security and power of one of Britain’s biggest Trade Unions, with 1.3 million members.

For more information on the structure of Unison, and how the organisation works for its members, see our About Unison page.

What can UNISON do for me?

Unison can offer our members experienced, understanding and individual advice and representation. We can also offer confidential financial and legal support, whilst our officials work tirelessly in the back-ground on your behalf, negotiating on policies and procedures, working toward improvements in health and safety and seeking to improve pay and conditions at both a national and local level.

In addition to all this, you also get:

  • Excellent additional legal services at work and in the home.
  • Education and training advice and courses leading to vocational and professional qualifications. We have been instrumental in setting up a return to learn project, delivered by distance learning, specifically for ambulance personnel.
  • A colour magazine sent to your home.
  • Pensions advice and welfare services.
  • An opportunity join our "vine List" - our branch email information service.
