Hundreds of UNISON learning representatives will gather in London today (10th
March) to celebrate their success in helping more than 20,000 union members gain
life-changing new skills.
The one-day conference marks the 20th anniversary of Return to Learn, a unique
programme that has been the springboard for UNISON's lifelong learning work.
The majority of those whom UNISON has enabled to get back into learning have
been low-paid members, unable to access any other kind of training opportunities
in their workplace. Two-thirds of them have been women and 20% came from black
and minority ethnic groups.
Universities and skills minister Bill Rammell and UNISON general secretary Dave
Prentis will address the conference today.
