Unison branch officials have been touring
ambulance stations throughout Somerset in order to meet members, listen to their
concerns and assess any health and safety issues which may exist.
Gordon Bailey and Alan Lofthouse toured the
workplaces during the past 2 days (12th and 13th March). They identified various
issues and received plenty of constructive feedback, both positive and negative.
Some of the findings were more surprising than others, such as the fact that
cleaning staff are not employed at many Somerset stations – something taken for
granted elsewhere. The comfort and condition of crew-room chairs were also an
issue for concern at some places.
Alan Lofthouse said: “We would like to thank
everyone we met for making us feel welcome. We can assure our members in
Somerset that we will now be taking their concerns forward in a constructive
way”.
