Reps and new Unison members are
being asked to note the following Unison Rule Change
Rule K 2(1)
The rule previously required that someone should be a member for 13 weeks
before they were entitled to legal assistance. That period has now been
changed, so that a member can qualify for legal assistance after only four
weeks of membership
The matter for which a member needs advice cannot be a pre-existing
complaint. So a member can receive legal advice for an issue that has arisen
only four weeks after membership has started at the earliest. If the issue
or complaint is pre-existing, the member cannot be offered legal assistance
on that particular matter.
Membership will be deemed to have commenced on the date Unison receives an
appropriately completed application form .
