Dear
colleagues,
I am writing
this to all relevant staff as there have been recent changes to the Dorset
rest break policy. The changes were necessary as staff were not
always getting their breaks and some were working in excess of 6 hours
before resting.
To help manage
the rest breaks we have returned to a "rest break window" system which will
enable control staff to keep cover whilst still allocating rest breaks.
As with any
revised arrangements it takes time to settle down and we would urge both
road staff and control staff to show understanding and be reasonable as to
when they take / allocate their rest breaks.
We must
remember that this policy was revised with the specific intention of
increasing the number of breaks taken in line with the working time
directive and reducing the number of interruptions.
This policy
applies equally to control staff as road staff.
We would
advise that the spirit of this agreement is honoured and that any
deliberate breach is recorded through the adverse incident route and direct
conflict is avoided.
If you have any
questions regarding this please see your local rep or contact Dave Hunt or
myself. (You can do this via the Contact Us
page of this site)
Many thanks
